The 2017 Honda Civic sedan carries a starting MSRP of $18,740 and comes standard with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera

Today Honda Canada announced that the Civic won a 2017 Canadian Green Car Award in the category of Efficient Gasoline or Diesel Combustion, beating out fellow finalists the Chevy Cruze and the Jaguar XF 2.0D.

The Civic is also a finalist for the overall Canadian Green Car of the Year Award, which will be presented at 11:30 am on Friday, April 7th at the Green Living Show in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North Building.

“Honda has a long and storied history of developing reliable, fuel efficient vehicles like the Civic. As we work towards our global target of electrifying two-thirds of our fleet, we’ll continue to build on that history by introducing new low-emission alternative fuel vehicles to the Canadian market,” said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Honda Canada. “We’re grateful to Canadian Green Car and our loyal customers for their continued recognition and support.”

That history dates back to 1973, when the Honda Civic first arrived in North America with a revolutionary CVCC (Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion) engine that was hailed for its fuel efficiency. Since then, ten successive generations of the Civic have continued to develop more advanced powertrains, consistently raising the bar for affordable compact-class vehicles in the areas of fuel efficiency, driving performance, and design innovation.

The Canadian Green Car Award recognizes vehicles that boast “green” attributes, yet also have actual mass-market appeal, based on the belief that eco-friendly cars can only have a real environmental impact if sold in large numbers.
