2017 Honda Civic Type R sets new lap record at the Nürburgring

The Honda Civic Type R is getting closer and closer to its highly anticipated US release date. And the nearer a vehicle gets to debuting, the more leaks there are, providing a steady drip of info that further whets the appetite.

The first big leak about the new Type R comes to us courtesy of the good folks at the CivicX forum, thanks to a user in Surprise, Arizona. The Honda enthusiast spied someone putting window stickers on cars as they were being loaded onto trucks, and snapped a photo of the $33,900 price tag slapped onto a Type R Touring.

As Jalopnik notes, that $33,900 price does not include destination and handling fees, which are listed as $875 on the sticker in the photo. That puts the total price at $34,775, which is in the mid-30k range that Honda promised, and not that bad of a price for the first ever Type R in America.

It should be noted that no official pricing has yet been announced for the vehicle, and when Jalopnik reached out to Honda for comment, the automaker responded with a response that neither confirmed nor denied the report, saying that it would “be announcing pricing for the model in mid June.”

Assuming, though, that the Type R will in fact cost $34,775, then that will put it at about $10,000 more than the Honda Civic Si, the other sporty version of the Civic.

During recent testing at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring, the 2017 Honda Civic Type R set a record for front-wheel-drive production cars by completing the 12.9-mile Nordschleife (north loop) in a record 7 minutes 43.80 seconds.

With that kind of pedigree, price, and rumored limited stock production, the Type R models are likely to sell like hotcakes.
