Honda Civic Type R races Touring car and MotoGP

For the first time ever, Honda is releasing video of a recent race between a Honda RC213V MotoGP Motorcycle, a Castrol Honda Touring car, and not one but four Civic Type R hot hatches. Better yet, the footage was filmed in 360 degrees, allowing viewers to see the high-speed race from every possible vantage point—including the passenger seats next to Honda World Touring Car drivers Gabriele Tarquini in his Civic Type R and Tiago Monteiro in his Touring Car.

Honda recommends using a mobile phone to watch the action, but we find it plenty exciting on a computer desktop screen, as well. Just click and drag on the video as it’s playing to change your perspective:

This never-before-seen race took place at Italy’s Circuito Tazio Nuvolari, during an exclusive event held by Honda and Castrol, its World Touring Car sponsor. Racing with Tarquini to round out the quartet of Type Rs were British Touring Cars drivers Gordon Shedden, Matt Neal, and BTCC development driver Jack Clarke. The RC213V was ridden by 2015 LCR Honda MotoGP star Jack Miller.

“The Type R is fantastic,” Tarquini said after the race. “It’s great on the track, and everybody is incredibility impressed by both the handling and braking performance.”

This isn’t the first time that Honda’s Civic Type R has done battle with one of its two-wheeled cousins: the 306-horsepower hatchback took on a CBR1000RR Fireblade back in September.
