Honda Clarity Electric and Plug-in Hybrid to Debut in New York
Today Honda announced that the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Honda Clarity Electric will be making their world debut next month at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.
With the addition of the two all-new electrified models, the Clarity will become the first vehicle series to offer a choice between fuel cell, battery electric, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. All eco-friendly motor options are available in the Clarity five-passenger midsize sedan.
The teaser sketch (above) that Honda released today in advance of the New York premiere shows the heretofore-unseen Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Clarity Electric parked in silhouette to the left and the right of the Clarity Fuel Cell sedan. Though it’s hard to discern much from the shadowy image, Honda says that the each Clarity variant shows off the next progression of the automaker’s dynamic styling for electrified products, featuring a low, wide aerodynamic body with unique styling elements.

In addition to the elegant and advanced exterior styling, the Clarity series also offers spacious interiors made from premium and “environmentally-responsible” materials. From a driving perspective, each Clarity model provides a smooth and quiet experience, with dynamic handling and seamless electric drive torque and acceleration. Advanced technology features include Display Audio with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as standard Honda Sensing suite of safety features.
Honda is touting the Clarity Electric as the auto industry’s first affordable, midsize, five-passenger battery electric vehicle (BEV). The Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, which will go on sale in all 50 states when it eventually launches, will combine an all-electric driving range rating in excess of 40 miles with a hyper-efficient gasoline-hybrid extended range mode.
All three models aid Honda in its stated goal of having two-thirds of its global auto sales come from electrified vehicles by the year 2030.
