Honda Clarity Fuel Cell Boasts EPA 366-Mile Range Rating

Today the Environmental Protection Agency officially rated the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell sedan’s fuel economy, and the results represent a major victory for the Japanese automaker.

The hydrogen-powered Clarity FCV was given a driving range rating of 366 miles and a fuel economy rating of 68 miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent combined (MPGe), meaning it will boast the best range of any zero-emission vehicle sold in the United States when it goes on sale later this year.

In the final months of 2016, the Honda Clarity will launch in California, where it will be leased at six certified fuel cell vehicle dealers in LA and Orange counties, five locations in the San Francisco Bay area, and one in Sacramento.

With an anticipated price tag of $60,000 and a monthly lease under $500, Honda will gradually shift from leases to retail sales of the Clarity as the number of vehicles and vehicle supplies increases, and the hydrogen refueling station network itself continues to grow.

“Not only does the Clarity Fuel Cell fit five passengers and refuel in three to five minutes, it offers customers a driving range on par with gasoline-powered cars,” said Steve Center, Honda’s vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office. “The Clarity leads the pack with a 366 mile driving range rating, and with a growing network of hydrogen stations and fast fueling time, the zero-emissions family road trip is no longer science fiction.”
