Today, Honda of America Manufacturing’s Anna Engine Plant in Anna, Ohio is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Since opening its doors on July 22, 1985, Honda’s largest automobile engine plant in the world has produced over 20.1 million engines.

In that time, the Anna Engine Plant has also expanded from 94 employees to over 2,800. The plant’s workers manufacture V6 and four-cylinder engines, high-precision steel camshafts, crankshafts, cylinder sleeves, and pulley components for Honda’s CVTs. The Anna plant has an annual capacity of 1.16 million engines, which it supplies to the automaker’s assembly plants in Ohio, Indiana, Canada, and the UK.

The now 2.4 million square-foot facility represents a $2.25 billion investment for Honda, with $800 million of that total coming over just the last four years. A large portion of those funds went toward last year’s construction of Honda’s most technically advanced North American engine assembly line to date, which is 93,000 square-feet and utilizes over 100 robots. Last month, the new assembly line began producing the turbo engines that will power the next generation of Civics, including the European Civic Type R’s 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo.

“Even more critical than the investments Honda has made in new technology is the passion and challenging spirit that our associates bring each day to the task of advancing Honda quality, efficiency and performance for our customers here in North America and around the world,” said Anna Engine Plant Manager Paul Dentinger. “Truly, our associates are powering the future of Honda.”
