For years it was rumored Honda was working on a smaller, more affordable version of its NSX supercar (sold as the Acura NSX in the United States but known as a Honda everywhere else in the world)—a baby NSX, if you will.

The Japanese automaker teased us with renders and patents, including one for the name “ZSX,” and if at any point you thought the project was too good to be true…it turns out you were right, as it has finally been revealed that the “baby NSX” is actually just a design concept for the Gran Turismo Sport video game that was released last month. We’ll pause for the collective sigh of disappointment.

Developed by Honda and Polyphony Digital, the developers behind the Gran Turismo series, the new Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo is an angular, wedge-like sports car clearly inspired by several of Honda’s other, real-life offerings. The side intakes, for instance, look as though they could have been lifted right off the NSX. Additionally, the nose is strongly reminiscent of the S660 kei sports car, albeit narrower and more swept back.

The concept car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that revs up to 7,500 RPM and makes 404 horsepower via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It also weighs only 1,982 pounds thanks to “many carbon fibre components.” Of course, the traditional cost of carbon fiber is somewhat lessened in the virtual world.

Obviously, the bad news here is that you won’t ever see it show up at a dealership near you. The good news is that you can drive it in your living room at any time you wish; and given how much a car like that would have been likely to cost in the real world, an online quick race is probably the best the majority of us could have been able to afford regardless of whether the baby NSX was real or not.
