The all-new Honda Marine BF6 portable engine has received the 2016 International Boat Builder’s Exhibition (IBEX) Innovation Award for outboard engine technology.  The honor was bestowed upon the BF6 by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), as well as a judging panel composed of critics from Boating Writers International (BWI).

BWI and the NMMA jointly presented Honda Marine with the 2016 award during a ceremony at the Tampa Convention Center, as part of a show and conference that ran from October 4th through the 6th.

The IBEX Innovation Award is the industry’s highest honor for innovative and technological advancement, recognizing achievements in OEM and aftermarket equipment based on the following criteria: innovative distinction from other products, benefit to the marine industry and/or consumer, practicality, and cost effectiveness.

Designed to power small skiffs, tenders, inflatables and sailboats, the Honda BF6 is a lightweight, six-horsepower outboard engine that fulfills all four requirements for the award. The engine also earned praise for its user friendliness, easy start, one-touch stop, and portability.

“Honda Marine is proud to be recognized once again with the prestigious IBEX Innovation Award,” said Scott Conner, the senior vice president of Honda Power Equipment Division. “The all-new Honda BF6 outboard marine engine integrates superior performance, a smart design and advanced technology—innovative features our customers appreciate and value.”

The BF6 will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,150 when it goes on sale at Honda dealers sometime before the end of calendar year 2016.
