Today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Honda debuted the all-new 2018 Odyssey—which, thank God, looks much better than those concept drawings done by five-year-olds suggested.

In addition to the upgraded styling, which includes an Active Shutter Grille for enhanced efficiency, the redesigned minivan also boasts advanced tech and a new 10-speed automatic transmission available on higher trims.

It’s also more powerful than the outgoing model, with a 3.5-liter V6 that increases horsepower by 32 to 280 hp. Versatility and cargo space are provided by new Honda Magic Slide second-row seats, which are easily reconfigured into new spaces.

New features that should excite parents include CabinWatch, which enables the driver to monitor passengers on the Display Audio touchscreen, and CabinTalk, which enables the driver to speak to passengers through second- and third-row speakers and the rear entertainment system headphones. And through CabinControl, users can change cabin heating and air-conditioning settings and control the entertainment system using their smartphone.

Other additions to the 2018 Honda Odyssey include a new 7-inch full-color gauge cluster, an available 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen with Honda-developed OS, and new Rear Entertainment System with streaming video.

The Honda Sensing suite of safety features will be offered on EX and above trims.

“This new Odyssey raises the stakes for family-friendly packaging, performance and technology in the minivan segment,” said Honda executive John Mendel. “In all aspects of its design, the new Odyssey is made to keep every member of the family happy, no matter the seating position, no matter the destination.”

The Odyssey will hit dealerships nationwide this spring.
