The 2017 Honda Fit, which goes on sale today for $15,900

The New York Daily News Auto Awards were announced today, with Honda picking up three trophies as a result of this year’s rankings. The 2017 Honda CR-V, Fit, and Pilot all took top honors in their respective categories.

The panel of eight Daily News automotive journalists chose vehicles that best represented the specific “DNA” of their unique segment (Get it? Daily News Awards=DNA…) Vehicles recognized represent “superior genetic makeup” in the areas of design, engineering, innovation, value, and dynamism.

The Honda Fit and Pilot were two of the four repeat winners from last year.

The Fit was selected “Best City Car,” with the editors praising it for being “long on value, space, safety, more value, fit, and finish (and did we mention value?)” The subcompact car was also praised for its good safety ratings and remarkably versatile interior space.

The Honda Pilot, which won for “Best Family SUV,” was described by DNA panelists as, “the ideal hauler for you and your loved ones [which] is comfortable on long family road trips, and… available with technology that will keep the kids entertained and out of your hair.”

Meanwhile, the 2017 Honda CR-V earned plaudits as the “Best Small SUV.”

“Refinement is the name of the CR-V’s game, a philosophy that is evident from the moment you open the driver’s door and slip behind the steering wheel,” editors wrote. “This Honda utterly oozes quality, and with the Touring trim level the CR-V might as well be wearing an Acura badge.”

The Daily News also praised the new Honda Clarity, writing that it would have been recognized with an award had it not missed the cut-off date of being on sale by February 1, 2017. Editors said they expect the Clarity to earn a spot among next year’s winners.
