Associates at Honda Precision Parts of Georgia, located in Tallapoosa, celebrate 10 years of transmission production.

Honda Precision Parts of Georgia (HPPG) in Tallapoosa today celebrated its 10th anniversary of manufacturing transmissions. The ceremony took place at the west Georgia facility and featured both Honda associates and members of the local community, including Tallapoosa Mayor Pete Bridges, who presented a key to the city to Honda Precision Parts of Georgia President Masahiko Kayama and Vice President Mike Jett.

When it began producing transmissions in 2006, HPPG was staffed with 179 Honda associates. Today, the plant boasts over 500 employees and an annual capacity to build 375,000 transmissions.

“We have made great strides during the last decade and our associates have been a driving force for our success here in Tallapoosa,” said HPPG President Masahiko Kayama. “Our future is bright and we look forward to sharing even more accomplishments with our associates and the local community as we continue to make high quality products for our customers.”

HPPG began with production of a five-speed transmission when the plant first opened ten years ago. In 2012, the facility invested in innovation in order to produce the six-speed transmissions that are still manufactured at the facility today.

On October 4, 2010, HPPG hit a major milestone with the production of its one-millionth transmission. Today, the Tallapoosa plant is responsible for the manufacturing of approximately 2.7 million transmissions.

Since it began production of automatic transmissions in Ohio in 1989, Honda has since manufactured over 21 million transmissions in the United States. In total, Honda operates 19 major manufacturing facilities in North America, which are responsible for the production of a wide range of Honda and Acura vehicles, as well as other many other products and vehicles.
