Honda Project Drive-InHonda has announced the Brownsville Drive-In in Pennsylvania has become the tenth drive-in theater to benefit from Honda Project Drive-In, a national effort to save as many of America’s drive-ins as possible.

Unfortunately, the end of 35mm film distribution has meant that many drive-ins could not afford to stay open because of the steep cost of switching to digital projection. Through Project Drive-In, Honda has been able to raise awareness across the United States and to offer communities all around the opportunity to help preserve American cinema and car culture.

Honda Project Drive-InIn this particular case, the remaining funds from the Save the Drive-In Fund at Indiegogo as well as an additional $5,000 donation from vAuto will be used by the Brownsville Drive-In Theater to purchase a new digital projector, enabling it to stay in business.

More than two million people voted for the Brownsville Drive-In as well as nine other drive-in theaters so that they could receive Honda’s support.

“With drive-in season about to begin, the timing couldn’t be better for the Grindstone community to celebrate a small business where families can share the cinema experience together under the stars,” said Alicia Jones, manager of social media at American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
