The renovated Honda Proving Center (HPC) is once again primed to test the capabilities of the companyÕs automobiles, motorcycles, side-by-sides and ATVs against the dramatic back drop of the Mojave Desert, near Cantil, California.

If you listened to but did not view the video below, with its loud and melodramatic “BWAAAAAH” sounds, you would be forgiven for thinking you were hearing the trailer for the next Godzilla movie, or the next super-intense Superman movie, or the next mind-bending treatise on dead wives that Christopher Nolan has dreamed up.

But in fact, this very intense video is signaling the return of… the Honda Proving Center (HPC)!

Check it out:

The renovated Honda Proving Center is back in full operation as a testing ground for future Honda and Acura products, testing the capabilities of the company’s automobiles, motorcycles, side-by-sides, and ATVs. The facility is located in the Mojave Desert, near Cantil, California, and features a 7.5-mile high-speed banked oval track capable of testing vehicles at speeds of over 200 miles per hour. An additional 4.5-mile winding road course tests agility with 28 curves and six different hills.

The newly improved proving grounds now also features a 1.3 million-square-foot vehicle dynamics area, as well as a modified powersports complex for development testing of Honda motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, and side-by-side vehicles.

Honda says that all original and existing asphalt was recycled on site and then used in the facility’s rehabilitation.

“The enhancements we have made at the Honda Proving Center will play an important role in advancing the performance capabilities of our products for our customers,” said Honda executive Jeff Conrad. “HPC has long played a valuable role in the development of our products and this renovation will ensure it continues to do so.”

The 3840-acre warm-weather testing facility’s renovation provides Honda with two key proving grounds in the US, the other being the Transportation Research Center, its automotive proving center located in East Liberty, Ohio.
