Last week at the 33rd annual Honda Supplier Conference, Honda recognized nearly 100 North American auto suppliers for achievements in supplying parts and materials to the Japanese manufacturer. The event, which was held May 4th through 5th in Birmingham, Alabama, was attended by representatives from over 600 original equipment suppliers and more than 300 service parts suppliers.

Honda used the conference as a platform to note the importance of “quality and innovation as the key to navigating the future of changing customer demand.”

Two different classes of suppliers were honored by Honda: those supplying parts and materials for mass production products, and those supplying service parts for customers who have already purchased Honda and Acura vehicles.

“The pursuit of quality is driving activity across our supply chain, and like our Honda associates we depend on suppliers to have the same level of passion to please the customer,” said Tom Lake, the vice president for North American Purchasing at Honda North America, Inc. “Honda looks forward to working with our suppliers to strategically meet the needs of our customers.”

Last year, Honda purchased a record $30 billion in parts and materials for mass production from North American suppliers, in order to keep up with record production of more than 1.92 million Honda and Acura passenger vehicles built in North America in 2016. Honda also purchased over $1 billion in parts from its North American Service Parts suppliers that year. Suppliers helped fuel Honda’s many new vehicle introductions over the past year, including models like the Civic Hatchback, CR-V, and Clarity Fuel Cell.
