Honda Sales Decline in Shorter August, but Trucks Hold Strong
Honda’s August 2015 American sales totaled 155,491 Honda and Acura vehicles, according to figures released today by the Japanese automaker. That total represents a 6.9% sales decrease over August 2014 sales, which the company attributes to the fact that last year’s August had one extra selling day and an early Labor Day weekend.

“The shorter sales month versus last year obscures the continued strong sales momentum of core Honda models,” said Honda Division senior vice president and general manager Jeff Conrad. “We’re working hard to keep up with the strong demand for our trucks, while our sedans continue to set the bar for retail sales.”
Despite the drop in overall sales, Honda did enjoy some successes last month. The perennially popular CR-V had its best month ever, with 34,771 units sold, for a 2% rise. Sales of the Odyssey minivan also improved for the third straight month, and the all-new HR-V crossover passed 4,500 units. All in all, total truck sales were up 6.9%.

Honda car sales were less impressive, with the Accord (down 16.8%) and the Fit (down 50.2%) both posting heavy losses. With new 2016 models of each vehicle hitting dealerships, those numbers will probably bounce back in September.
