The 2016 Honda CR-V is capable of up to 33 mpg on the highway

In what has become something of a trend, last month Honda enjoyed record sales, while the company’s luxury brand Acura continued to underperform.

Today the automaker reported total sales of 152,799 Honda and Acura vehicles, setting a new July record and representing a 4.4% gain over last July. The record sales were driven almost entirely by Honda, though, and in particular Honda truck sales, which jumped 10.1% to a new all-time monthly record of 77,740 sales.

The CR-V retained its title as America’s most popular SUV, setting a new all-time monthly sales record with 36,017 sales in July, while the all-new Ridgeline pickup picked up 3,518 sales in its first full month of sales.

July was good for Honda’s car lineup, as well, though most models didn’t post the same massive gains. With 32,952 units sold, the Honda Civic broke a previous July sales record set in 2013, while Accord sales once again topped 30,000 units.

“The strong cadence of new Honda products we continue to bring to market has created extraordinary retail demand that is unprecedented in our history,” said Honda executive Jeff Conrad. “With the Civic Hatchback on the way along with our step-by-step effort to fortify our truck business, we will continue to grow our sales through individual car buyers.”

Acura delivered its first 21 NSX supercars in July, and also saw sales success for the refreshed MDX. For the most part, though, it was another disappointing month, with Acura posting a meager 13,674 total sales, a 8.3 decrease from the previous year.

“The first deliveries of the all-new Acura NSX are electrifying Acura showrooms and generating tremendous excitement for all Acura customers,” said Honda executive John Mendel. “Showcasing the Acura brand’s new design direction, the 2017 MDX is the next step in our commitment to deliver on Precision Crafted Performance.”
