The United Nations Climate Change Conference began yesterday, with over 150 political leaders coming together in Paris to discuss a plan for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. To coincide with the climate talks, 73 private companies from across the American economy added their names to the American Business Act on Climate Pledge.

American Honda Motor Co. was among the corporations that signed the pledge, and yesterday announced its support for the Obama Administration’s Climate Action Plan, which involves dramatically reducing carbon emissions over the next 15 years. Honda also affirmed its support for “a strong outcome during the 2015 Paris Climate Conference,” in a statement released yesterday.

Specifically, Honda has pledged to reduce its total company CO2 emissions by 50% by the year 2050 and reduce the CO2 intensity of its vehicles and power equipment products worldwide by 30% by the year 2020, using the automaker’s emissions from the year 2000 as a baseline.

“Reducing emissions of greenhouse gases remain at the center of our vision for helping to address society’s energy and environmental concerns,” remarked Honda North America President and CEO Takuji Yamada. “Our efforts toward reducing GHG emissions and other environmental impacts extend to every facet of our operations.”

To fulfill its signed commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, American Honda is using more renewable energies, establishing zero-waste-to-landfill facilities, and making an effort to reduce energy usage throughout its operations.
