For many, the Honda Civic is a practical vehicle for getting responsible-minded drivers around their communities. Affordable and recognizable with low-cost repairs due to ubiquity, it’s an average car in the best sort of way.

But for those who want Honda coupes and sedans to be extreme, the 2017 Si takes the Civic to its limits.

“This will be, hands down, the fastest, best-handling Si we’ve ever offered to our customers,” promised Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of Honda.

With “Si” standing for sport injected (which sounds illegal in most professional leagues), you can expect performance tweaks and available upgrades like a high-torque engine, high-performance summer tires, and an active steering system. Conrad calls the Civic’s performance-based doping “sporty goodness,” which makes it sound wholesome instead of sleazy. The aesthetic upgrades such as the front and rear splitters, red-stitched front sport seats, and the rear spoiler add some serious flair, as well.

The 2017 Civic Si Coupe and Si Sedan prototypes will be on display at the 2016 Los Angeles International Auto Show, from November 18-27. They’ll be joined by the rest of the 10th-generation Civic lineup (coupe, sedan, and hatchback) and the Type-R prototype, a full NBA starting lineup of straight-laced and performance-enhanced vehicles appearing in harmony.

We still don’t have all of the stats on the Si, such as price, release date (sometime in 2017), or how many will be available at launch—but the promise of a high-performance, high-torque 1.5-liter, directed-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with dual variable cam timing flashes should be enough to keep enthusiasts interested.
