Flying Magazine is the world’s most widely read aviation magazine—at least, according to Flying Magazine. If true, I can only imagine that the publication has earned that distinction in part because Skymall is not technically considered an “aviation magazine.”

Because, let’s be honest, anyone who has ever been on a plane has, at one point or another, found themselves perusing through Skymall’s selection of tiny foot massagers—whereas only a select group of people has read Flying Magazine.

But the point is, Flying Magazine is a very prestigious periodical in the world of aviation, and it has just bestowed a very prestigious award upon the HondaJet. Honda’s lightweight jet was recognized with a “Flying Innovation Award” for its breakthrough design and advanced technologies.

The announcement was made during an event Flying held on the opening evening of 2017 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.

“On behalf of the Honda Aircraft Company, I am incredibly honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Honda Aircraft President & CEO Michimasa Fujino. “We are proud that HondaJet has been recognized for its innovative design and advanced technologies by such a prestigious aviation industry publication.”

“Fitting the HondaJet won as it embodies innovation, the HondaJet shows what can transpire with hard work. Honda aircraft did an amazing job not only with the aircraft but also the manufacturing facilities. It’s an incredible story,” said Flying Editor-in-Chief Stephen Pope.

The HondaJet beat out five other nominees for Flying’s Innovation Award, which was created to recognize the most significant innovation in general aviation from the previous year. The lightweight jet also received a 2016 Flying Editors’ Choice Award.

While you won’t find a low-cost airline using the HondaJet anytime soon, it’s still cool to see the impressive and award-winning technology at work.
