Honest John Award-Winning Ford Fiesta Leads UK Sales in May

Ford once again led the UK auto industry in total vehicle, car, and commercial vehicle sales in May, with the Fiesta leading the way with registrations totaling 7,617 units ahead of the launch of the all-new model.
“It’s an exciting time as we continue to build on our successes and prepare to launch the all-new Fiesta,” said Ford of Britain Chairman and Managing Director Andy Barratt. “A real testament to the strength of the Fiesta, now in its ninth year as the UK’s favorite car, was its win at the 2017 Honest John Awards.
“Fiesta was awarded best small hatchback, beating four shortlisted competitors all newer than our current Fiesta, which will be replaced this year with our most technologically advanced model yet,” Barratt added. “Every successive Fiesta model has improved on the one before, and this new Fiesta is simply outstanding.”

The Fiesta’s 7,617 registration in May put it 2,168 units and 1.2 market share percentage points ahead of the next-best-selling vehicle. Through the first five months of the year, Fiesta sales total 50,779 registrations, putting it 19,017 units and 1.8 percentage points of market share ahead of No. 2.
Ford’s car sales in May totaled 20,516 units, nearly 5,000 units ahead of the second-best-selling brand. Its retail market share was 10.8% for the month and currently stands at 11.9%, giving Ford plenty of distance between its competition. Light commercial vehicle sales were down 2.3% in May at 9,433 units registered.
