Toyota's LGBT Workplace Equality Policies Earn It a 100%

Toyota believes in equal rights for all of its employees

Each year, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) scrutinizes big companies to see how they fare when it comes to equality for their LGBT associates. This year, Toyota has been named a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality thanks to its perfect score of 100 on the 2016 Corporate Equality Index (CEI).

The 2016 CEI evaluated a total of 1,027 companies for their LGBT-related policies and practices. Areas investigated included domestic partner benefits, competency programs, non-discrimination workplace protections, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, and public engagement with the LGBT community. Of these 1,027 businesses, Toyota was one of only 407 to earn a perfect score.

“We are proud to be recognized once again by HRC and to celebrate this achievement with all our Team members under One Toyota,” commented Toyota North America’s CEO, Jim Lentz. “Toyota’s LGBT and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives reflect our core values of respect for people and continuous improvement. We are committed to an inclusive and welcoming workplace, and to enriching society and our customers’ lives. We will continue to support the LGBT community nationwide and I am proud of this recognition of Toyota as a best place to work.”

Toyota has achieved a perfect score in the CEI since 2008. This year was the first that the HRC recognized all of Toyota’s brands—Toyota, Lexus, and Scion—under one umbrella.
