A Regal with hybrid technology is making its way to China

The North American automotive market is getting ready to receive a wide assortment of Buick Regal variants in the upcoming months. Not only did Buick just unveil the 2018 Buick Regal GS, but the U.S. is also seeing the introduction of the 2018 Buick Regal Sportback and TourX model lineups later this year and early next year.

However, there would appear to be one variation of the Buick Regal that the U.S. will not be receiving any time soon. Instead, Buick’s blossoming market in China will obtain an upcoming hybrid model of the Buick Regal.

During the reveal of China’s own 2018 model of the Buick Regal GS, the hybrid variation of the Buick sedan was briefly mentioned. While no set release for the hybrid Regal was revealed, Buick officials did share some details surrounding the model.

The Buick Regal Hybrid is set to come paired with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and an electronically-controlled, intelligent-variable transmission. Powering the hybrid capabilities of the vehicle will be a high-performance lithium-ion battery pack.

The 2018 Buick LaCrosse will be offered with a new hybrid drivetrain and nine-speed automatic transmission

The LaCrosse has already gone green in China

This won’t be the first Buick model available outside the United States with a hybrid powertrain. Buick already sells a hybrid variant of the Buick LaCrosse in China as well. The hybrid LaCrosse also comes packaged with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The upcoming American model of the LaCrosse comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder eAssist engine instead.

As the release of this Regal hybrid draws ever closer, we are sure to hear more about it. If the model is a success in Buick’s healthiest market, then it might potentially come stateside in the near future.
