Hyundai Crate Engine Program Announced at SEMA
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show that is held in Las Vegas every year is a tribute to the hard work and creativity displayed by aftermarket builders. It was this do-it-yourself mentality that made SEMA the perfect place for the announcement of the Hyundai crate engine program.
Hyundai will now offer its famed Lambda 3.8-liter, direct-injected V6 and Theta 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engines to racers building their own vehicles. The cost of the engines begins at just $4,500, significantly lower than an equivalent replacement engine.
“As more Genesis Coupes have entered the pre-owned enthusiast market since its 2009 launch, we’ve witnessed strong interest in leveraging the low cost potential of this rear-drive platform and its powertrains for the tuner market and motorsports,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, in a press release.
“Now, with our new crate engine program, Hyundai is making it more affordable for these same enthusiasts to modify their Genesis Coupe, or perhaps inject some high-value horsepower into other platforms.”
If you are a racing enthusiast, could you see yourself using one of the engines available through the Hyundai crate engine program to start your next project?
