The latest Hyundai Verna and…an Andy Samberg impersonator?

Hyundai is attempting to regain control of the compact sedan market in Asia with the debut of a redesigned Fluidic Verna.

The mini sedan–which debuted in India today and will soon spread to nearby countries–received a cosmetic makeover and a new name: the 2015 Verna 4S, which stands for “Style, Safety, Sophistication and Speed.” Most of us know the Verna by its American nameplate, the Hyundai Accent.

The 2015 Fluidic Verna 4S–nicknamed the “World Sedan”–has maintained the visual appeal of its previous generations, inspired by Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture language.

The latest model retains the same engine options: gasoline in 1.4- or 1.6-liter or CRDi diesel automatic in 1.4- or 1.6-liter. The machines have been tweaked marginally for improved fuel economy, now reaching around 56-58 mpg. Transmission options include five-speed manual, six-speed manual, and four-speed automatic.

Engineers also put focus on improving any shortcomings, specifically boosting suspension and steering response. All versions of the new Verna 4S receive ABS and multiple airbags.

On the outside, the front fascia gets a new twin-slat chrome grille, revamped bumper, stretched air dam, larger projector headlamps, and a re-detailed taillight cluster. However, the excessive chrome has been removed for a more subdued, sophisticated appearance.

On the inside, not much has changed on the latest Verna. Most of the unnecessary special features have been lost, including a touch screen and navigation system. Instead, a new music system with digital storage has been inserted. This will probably keep the model competitively priced to rival similar models from competitors.

“The launch of the all-new 4S Fluidic Verna marks Hyundai’s success as a premium car manufacturer winning customers’ love and trust globally. Its stunning fluidic design and technological finesse enhance driver and passenger comfort,” B.S. Seo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hyundai Motors India, said.

The facelifted Hyundai Verna 4S will cost between (the equivalent of) $12,500-$19,500. We’ll see if this new Verna brings any changes to the US-version Accent.
