Many Hyundai vehicles will now have Google-powered destination search.

Back in January, we got our first look at Hyundai’s enhanced Blue Link® in-car telematics/infotainment system at the Pepcom’s Digital Experience.  The event served as a practice run for the system to be displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the following week, and got Hyundai enthusiasts really excited about what the next-generation of Blue Link will be.

One of the most appealing new features that the new Blue Link system offers is the upgraded destination search, which is powered by GooglePlaces API.

The new system was to be rolled out exclusively on the all-new 2015 Genesis in the Spring, and then the 2015 Sonata later in the year, which had current drivers sad, but Hyundai has now announced that the Google-powered destination search will be available to more than 500,000 current Hyundai owners who have the first-generation Blue Link system on their vehicle.

“Now, if one of our subscribers or potential subscribers reaches up and presses the Blue Link or Enhanced Navigation button they will have access to Google’s search accuracy and Google Maps’ destination location information when they search for U.S. destinations,” said Barry Ratzlaff, executive director of Customer Connect at Hyundai, in press release.

“When it comes to search engines, speed and relevant results is the name of the game and now the Blue Link in-vehicle system has the same search quality as a customer’s smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop.”
