Hyundai Is Highest Ranked Non-Premium Automaker in APEAL Study

There must be something in the water at Hyundai. Fresh off its victory in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study—the automaker won the most awards in its history and was the highest ranking non-premium brand in the study—the automaker has done it again. This time, Hyundai was the highest ranked non-premium automaker in J.D. Power & Associates’ 2014 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study℠. This marks the first time that an automaker has been the highest ranked non-premium brand in the APEAL Study and the Initial Quality Study in the same year.

The study examines how gratifying new car drivers find their vehicles to drive and to own.

In addition, the 2014 Hyundai Accent topped the small car segment.

The 2014 Hyundai Accent

“We are so pleased to see the recognition that Accent has received in this year’s J.D. Power APEAL study,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “And it’s especially gratifying coming on the heels of our best-ever IQS showing just one month ago.”

The Hyundai Veloster finished second in the compact sporty car segment while the Sonata took third place, missing second by just two points. (Points are out of 1,000.) “We expect the all-new 2015 Sonata to do even better next year,” O’Brien commented.
