Hyundai and National Council of La Raza donated 1,000 coats to students.

This winter, Hyundai Motor America and National Council of La Raza (NCLR) teamed up to help service families below the poverty line. Hyundai and NCLR donated 1,000 coats to the community organization CentroNía. A special donation ceremony was held on March 4 at CentroNía Headquarters. More than 50 community members, students, and parents joined CentroNía President & CEO Myrna Peralta at the ceremony, as well as reps from Hyundai and National Council of La Raza.

“At Hyundai, we are committed to improving the communities in which we work and live. We are honored to partner with NCLR to identify and address the needs of its affiliate partners,” said Zafar Brooks, Director Corporate Social Responsibility and Diversity Inclusion at Hyundai Motor America.  “We commend CentroNia for their extraordinary hard work to improve the health and wellness of children in our nation’s capital.”

Hyundai’s 1,000 coat donation will benefit students across five CentroNía locations in Maryland and the nation’s capitol, ensuring that they continue to stay warm through the seemingly endless winter. Social workers and counselors from CentroNía were integral in deciding which children would be the recipients of Hyundai and NCLR’s generosity; more than 85 percent of CentroNía’s students’ families receive some degree of federal aid. Hyundai has been working to donate coats to youth in need for more than five years, and the results have kept thousands of children warm throughout harsh winter months.
