Hyundai Motor America (HMA) is kicking off a good start to its summer, as the brand has reported June sales of 64,052 units between the Hyundai brand and luxury Genesis brand, a full 18 percent jump over last June, and the second month in a row with growth numbers in the double digits.

This sales growth was entirely on the Hyundai side of the fence, as the less-premium brand posted 63,256 sales, compared to 52,894 in last June. Meanwhile, HMA reported that it only sold 796 Genesis vehicles, down more than half from last June’s 1,613.

The celebration of the sales increase, though, is countered somewhat by year-to-date sales. According to HMA, 2017 year-to-date sales through June were 346,360 vehicles between the two brands, while this year Hyundai posted 335,048 sales to date — about a 3% decrease.

2018 Hyundai Tucson

On the light side, though, Hyundai’s sales gains were spearheaded by its SUVs, with its total SUV sales surging up 37 percent, for a first-ever figure of over 30,000 units sold and all-time record for the fourth month in a row. In particular, the Hyundai Tucson is being gobbled up by consumers, with sales up 62 percent to 16,173 units.

Meanwhile, the rest of Hyundai’s lineup saw increased sales as well, including Elantra sales rising an eyebrow-raising 34 percecnt, Sonata sales increasing 5 percent, Ioniq sales increasing 7 percent, and sales of the newly restored Veloster increasing 6 percent.

Finally, the Hyundai CPO program also posted sales gains of 7 percent.
