Elantra Contributed to Company-Best Hyundai Sales in 2013Hyundai Motor announced last week that their sales for December were up six percent over December 2012’s figures, making for the best December performance in company history and the first such month where sales eclipsed 60,000 units. And while that news is enough in and of itself, the automaker was undoubtedly even more enthused with the overall outlook: Hyundai sales in 2013 totaled 720,783 units, which improved upon the company’s record-setting 2012 by 2.5 percent.

“An exceptionally strong post-Christmas sales blitz enabled Hyundai to shatter our annual sales record which was set just last year,” said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America, in the company’s official press release. “All year-end indicators appear to be signaling a robust economic environment for 2014. Home prices are back to their pre-recession levels, jobless rates are continuing to decline, and consumer confidence is on the upswing. This is welcome news for the automotive sector and at Hyundai we’re particularly excited to be ringing in the New Year.”

2013 Hyundai ElantraHyundai’s top performers were the Elantra, which set a full-year sales record of 247,912 units; this is good for a 23 percent improvement over 2012’s stats for the U.S.-built compact sedan. Another home-built Hyundai, the Santa Fe, improved upon 2012’s sales by 25 percent with 88,844 units.

While Hyundai sales in 2013 are strong enough to suggest continued success, the automaker is not content to rest on its laurels. The all-new Genesis sedan will make its debut at next week’s North American International Auto Show, and the all-new Sonata will hit dealerships in the spring. The former will be the subject of a high-profile commercial that will air during the first quarter of the Super Bowl, ensuring a great deal of exposure for the year ahead.
