Hyundai Showcases Awards at LA Auto Show

Hyundai was too busy having fun at SEMA to prepare much for the LA Auto Show. But having revealed its newest models earlier in 2014, what is there left for Hyundai to do but enjoy the fruits of its labor?

While other automakers are busy trying to impress Los Angeles with flashy unveilings of new nameplates that ultimately disappoint (who wants another Ford gimmick?), Hyundai is basking in the gold it’s receiving for its top-of-the-line vehicles.

The 2014 LA Auto Show is a much different experience for Hyundai than years previous. Instead of press releases with hipster bands and giant bed sheet unveilings, this year Hyundai showcases awards it’s won and the technology its vehicles feature. The primary Hyundai booth shows off Android® Auto API and Apple® CarPlay, both promoted for the Sonata for the ConnectedCar Expo.

Apart from a re-introduction to the redesigned Genesis and the Tucson Fuel Cell Vehicle, most of Hyundai’s west coast buzz has been about its accolades to boost sales of its existing models.

ALG’s Residual Value Award

Receiving a Residual Value Award nod from ALG (owned by TrueCar, Inc), the 2015 Hyundai Genesis took the highest rank in the list of Premium Full-Size Cars. This means, as with most Hyundai vehicles, this car will retain the highest percentage of its original price. Considering the Santa Fe Sport, Accent, Azera, and Elantra have won in years past, this is no surprise.

ALG has been assessing residual value projections for 50 years, scrutinizing everything from brand strength and incentive spending to industry trends and vehicle quality.

Popular Mechanics‘ Luxury Car of the Year

Score another win for the 2015 Genesis. After test driving this IIHS Top Safety Pick+ vehicle, the editors of Popular Mechanics bestowed the Car of the Year award on the Genesis for the Luxury division. Despite being a first generation model, the Genesis received accolades for its premium features, advanced technology, and reasonable price. Reviewers say it’s also a lot of fun to drive.

The 2015 Sonata is also taking home trophies from Los Angeles. After evaluating 200 new vehicles in 10 categories on a test track, the Edmunds Testing Team took the final scores and determined that the Sonata is an A-grade Top Rated Vehicle.

“The Sonata’s value is bolstered by its class-leading safety features, including lane departure warning and frontal collision warning systems,” said Scott Oldham, editor in chief of Edmunds.com. Other features making the model a heavy-hitter are the safety aspects, Apple® CarPlay,  Android® Auto, sophisticated design, durable powertrain, and refined handling.

USA Today‘s Best Midsize Sedan for Under $27,000

Receiving 803 points out of 100, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport snagged this accolade which goes to the midsize sedan with the highest quality for the lowest price. The results are a combination of expert scores, family scores, and mileage rates. The model might seem a bit unexciting, but it does a lot of things well, thus offering plenty of value for the price. The most rewarding aspect of the Sonata is that it actually drives well without lagging.
