Hyundai Veloster Finally Gets the Performance Treatment It Deserves

Hyundai Gurnade Veloster Concept 2016 SEMA Show

The Hyundai Veloster is a vastly under-rated car, the kind of unique animal that bucks mainline design conventions and offers a truly aggressive drive at an affordable price. Despite this, the Veloster continues to lag in monthly sales. Hopefully the upcoming changes to the Veloster will light a fire under buyers, but in the meantime, there is one place that the Veloster is popular: the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

This yearly gathering of automakers and after-market tuners yields some of the hottest custom cars you’ll ever see, and the Veloster has been a recurring guest at the annual convention. Last year, Hyundai worked with Blood Type Racing to make a 500-hp Veloster Turbo R-Spec. This year, it gets an even better treatment from Gurnade Inc. in the form of a red, race-ready performance machine.

While the Gurnade Veloster Concept on display at SEMA in November won’t actually be offered for widespread public sale, but that doesn’t mean we can’t admire–and long for–its many awesome enhancements. Gurnade worked deftly and rigorously to produce a fierce Veloster that lives up the car’s true potential.

Notable updates that give this monstrous 3-door machine new life include a lowered stance, Lightner Motorsports flared fenders, an ARK Performance rear spoiler, and plenty of street racing enhancements. Other exciting upgrades include:

  • ARK Performance cat-back exhaust
  • NEO Motorsports coil-overs and 6-piston big brake kit
  • Rotiform 19-inch OZT three-piece forged wheels
  • Toyo competition-spec tires
  • EPR carbon-fiber front spoiler, side sills, and rear garnish
  • Seibon carbon-fiber hood and hatch
  • Cappelletti Design custom headlamps and foglamps
  • Front crash bar
  • Cobra Nogaro racing seats
  • Takata racing harnesses
  • Pierce Motorsports roll cage
  • SoCal Garage Works carbon-fiber steering wheel
  • Phoenix Gold subwoofer and amplifier

“Gurnade has always been drawn to the uniquely aggressive lines of the production Veloster,” explained Joshua Cloud, owner of Gurnade. “So when Hyundai approached us with the opportunity to develop one of their vehicles for SEMA, we didn’t hesitate to create the Gurnade Veloster Concept. It leverages all the strengths of the Veloster and takes it where we always envisioned it could go.”

If you’re a fan of the Veloster, make sure you take the opportunity to see this race-ready custom version at SEMA between November 1st-4th!
