I Got 99 Problems (But My Corolla Ain’t One)
Car ownership is one of those things that is a requirement for anyone who lives and/or works outside a major city. And it can either be an extremely rewarding experience if you have a reliable, fun-to-drive car; or a nightmare if you’re faced with a car that has constant issues. That’s why it’s important to read reviews of various models before choosing your next ride—and that’s especially true if you’re buying used.
In the recent 2015 US Vehicle Dependability Study by J.D. Power and Associates, Toyota and its affiliated brands came out way above average in all categories. In order to reach this conclusion, J.D. Power surveyed over 34,000 owners of 2012 model-year vehicles, asking them to report the number of problems they experienced with their vehicles over a three-year period. Toyota itself came third, with 111 problems per 100 vehicles. Lexus was first, with 89 problems per 100 vehicles, and Scion came in ninth, with 121 problems per 100 vehicles.
As far as specific models go, the 2012 Scion xD was the winner in the small car category, while the 2012 Toyota Corolla took the award for the compact cars. Additional winners included the 2012 Scion xB, the 2012 Scion tC, the 2012 Toyota Sienna, the 2012 Lexus ES, and the 2012 Lexus GX.
Other automakers whose vehicles experienced few problems included Buick, Cadillac, Honda, Porsche, and Lincoln.
