Last month, we wrote about a study from the folks at EveryCarListed.com that found the Ford F-150 to be to most popular vehicle in 39 states. A month beforehand, Yahoo! Autos asked IHS Automotive for its own determination on the matter and put forth the results in an article titled “The Most Popular New Vehicle in Each State? Not What You Might Expect.”

Did the title lead you to suspect that the F-Series was not the most popular vehicle overall? Well, we hate to recalibrate your erroneously jostled expectations, but it was.

IHS Automotive found that the Ford F-Series was the most popular vehicle in 16 states—Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. The difference between this study and that of EveryCarListed.com appears to be IHS Automotive’s exclusion of commercial and fleet vehicles.

Still, in conceding a number of states to the Chevy Silverado, Subaru Outback, Toyota Camry, and Ram pickups, Ford’s 16 states make the F-Series the most widely beloved vehicle in the United States, an accomplishment that is substantiated by nearly four full decades of being not just the best-selling truck in America, but the best-selling vehicle overall.
