The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just awarded the 2015 Sonata the Top Safety Pick+ designation, the highest distinction that the institute doles out to vehicles. “The Top Safety Pick+ designation recognizes state-of-the-art safety,” commented IIHS president, Adrian Lund. “The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is not only engineered to protect people when crashes happen, but with its optional forward collision warning system rated basic in our tests, this car can help drivers avoid some of the most common kinds of collisions altogether.”

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata comes with a plethora of safety features. These features include standard ABS, Electronic Stability Control, a Tire Pressure Monitoring system, Traction Control, and Vehicle Stability Management. The Sonata is also available with active safety features, like the award-winning Forward Collision Warning system. These active features also include Blind Spot Detection, a Lane Departure Warning System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and rear parking sensors.

“Occupant safety is at the forefront of Hyundai design and engineering,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Sonata’s Top Safety Pick+ recognition reinforces our dedication to occupant safety, and integrating our accident prevention technologies makes the 2015 Sonata one of the safest midsize sedans on the market today.”

To earn the Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must yield the same safety results that one does to achieve the Top Safety Pick award. That is, a vehicle must receive Good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests, as well as at least an Acceptable in the small overlap front test. What sets the Plus distinction apart is at least a Basic rating in front crash prevention.
