The 2016 Kia Optima is now an IIHS Top Safety Pick+

It looks like the 2016 Kia Optima is more than just a pretty face. Kia’s best-selling nameplate recently received the honor of being named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This is the highest possible safety rating a vehicle can earn from the safety organization.

The Optima was able to earn this high safety rating after earning the IIHS’s highest rating of “good” in five crashworthiness tests, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength, and head restraints. It also received a “superior” rating for its optional front-crash prevention system.

“The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety sets some of the highest standards of crashworthiness, and the Top Safety Pick Plus designation is a significant achievement for the Kia brand and for our best-selling vehicle,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning for Kia Motors America. “We are pleased that the all-new Optima received strong ratings across the range of rigorous tests set forth by IIHS. This rating validates the efforts of our engineers and the priority we place on safety for our consumers.”

And it is very obvious that Kia puts a lot of emphasis on safety. On the 2016 Optima alone, a number of safety technologies are available at an affordable price. Each Optima comes standard with a rearview camera, while the SX and SXL trim levels take things up a notch with an available 360-degree Surround-View Monitor. Other available driver assistance technologies include Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Assist System, Front Collision Warning System, Lane Departure Warning System, and Autonomous Emergency Braking.

Really, is it any surprise that the 2016 Kia Optima was named a Top Safety Pick+?

If you add the Optima’s sweet style, you’ve got one hell of a sedan on your hands. It’s no wonder this car is taking the industry by storm.
