IIHS Gives Audi A3, S3 Top Safety Scores
The results are in, and the Audi A3 and S3 passed their crash tests with flying colors, each earning a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The A3 went the extra mile, earning a Top Safety Pick+ rating, the highest a car can receive, making it the only European premium compact to do so.
The Audi A3 earned its Top Safety Pick+ thanks to its available Audi pre sense front system, which is part of the Advanced Technology Package. This package includes Audi active lane assist and adaptive cruise control, and the pre sense front system automatically detects when a driver is making an emergency maneuver and prepares the vehicle for a potential collision.
Only those vehicles with front crash prevention systems such as this and a “Good” or “Acceptable” score on the small overlap test are given the Top Safety Pick+ rating.
Both the A3 and S3 offer a standard version of Audi pre sense plus secondary collision brake assist, which automatically applies the brakes after a collision to prevent the car from rolling into oncoming traffic.
