In the Rearview: Ram, Ford, and Chevrolet, Sitting in a Tree

Welcome to In the Rearview, where I bring you the news from the past week in one delectable, bite-sized package.

First, we talk about the Ram Power Wagon, which will be competing against the Ford F-150 Raptor and the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 (Geez, you guys, when are you getting together, already?). Then, Jeep has revealed the new 2017 Compass, replacing the old version as well as the Jeep Patriot, while bringing the Compass a bit more in line with the (more popular) Grand Cherokee.

In China, meanwhile, Buick has revealed the startlingly-good-looking Velite concept, which was expected to be just a Chevy Volt rebadge but ended up looking much cooler (although, honestly, the production version certainly won’t look like that).

Then, Pixar is taking a page from Man of Steel, judging by its dark, gritty Cars 3 trailer, featuring a brutal, racecar-shredding (remember: cars are people in this movie) crash.

In a little lighter news, Toyota is poking its unamused head into the Chevy Bolt party room to remind everyone that it has made a plug-in hybrid, too, which reviewers (in this case, Kelley Blue Book) think is pretty darn good.

In news that will have longer-term Bengals fans crossing their arms unhappily, GMC has sponsored a video showing off the Pittsburgh Steelers’ commitment to safety.

Wrapping it up, a new study has shown that dealerships are undercharging people for CPO vehicles (don’t tell anyone), and our own Kurt Verlin tells us whether or not The Grand Tour’s first episode was a big, smelly pile of garbage.
