Infiniti has gone through quite a few changes in the past few years, one of the most notable being the changing to its model naming from a scramble of letters and numbers to names that all begin with simply Q for cars and QX for SUVs. The luxury arm of Nissan has a few more shake ups in the works for 2016, the biggest of these being the discontinuation of the Q40 and introduction of the Q30.

2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan Overview

R.I.P. Infiniti Q40

The Infiniti Q40 had a much longer life than originally planned. The entry-level model to the Infiniti line was originally called the Infiniti G37. When Infiniti switched to the Q naming system, the G37 was supposed to be replaced by the Infiniti Q50, but instead was brought back as the Q40 this model year. According to the press release, Infiniti has already stopped building the Q40, so if you really had your heart set on one you need to get to a dealership soon.

To replace the Infiniti Q40, the Q30 premium compact will be officially introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Photos and details have been leaked in advance of the official debut, however. The Infiniti QX30 premium active crossover will also be introduced using a similar platform as the Q30. Both vehicles will be available in summer of 2016 as members of the 2017 model year.

Other updates include a new engine for the Infiniti Q50, a new Signature Edition for the QX80, and the Infiniti Q70 will get a Premium Select Edition.
