The New York International Auto Show brought several 2019 models out into the public eye, including the redesigned 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The model was renamed for the upcoming model year (a bit confusing, but it is what it is). In short, the Santa Fe Sport has become the Santa Fe, and the Santa Fe has become the Santa Fe XL.

Aside from its new name, the 2019 Santa Fe’s redesign includes the addition of several technology features, said to improve safety, comfort, and convenience. The cabin is also bigger than ever with 110.7 cubic feet of passenger volume, compared to the 2018 Santa Fe Sport‘s 108 cubic feet. The second row’s leg room has also been extended, earning it the best-in-class title.

Driver-assist features are making their way to the forefront of all the new brands, and the 2019 Santa Fe is no exception. As part of the redesign, features like Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCW), Rear Occupant Alert, and a Heads-Up Display help create a safer cabin and driving experience for consumers. The 2019 Santa Fe is the first Hyundai model equipped with Safe Exit Assist. This feature senses an upcoming vehicle and automatically locks the doors in an effort to prevent someone from being injured while exiting the vehicle.

There are three engines available on the 2019 Santa Fe: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, and a 2.2-liter turbodiesel. The 2019’s highlight, though, is its brand new eight-speed automatic transmission. The Santa Fe will also be equipped with Hyundai’s HTRAC® All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.
