General Motors has filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the term “Scottsdale.” The application (pictured below) specifies that the trademark is for “Motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles, sport utility vehicles, trucks, vans, engines therefor and structural parts thereof.”

The Scottsdale trademark filing was reported by GM Authority, which speculates that the name might be used for yet another high-end variant of the Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The Scottsdale name was last used by GM as a trim level of the Chevy and GMC C/K pickup truck, from 1973 to 1999. It may be returning soon as a high-end Chevrolet truck “that’s along the lines of the Sierra Denali.”

At least, that’s the speculation for now.
