Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV

Mitsubishi recently released a teaser photo for the Chicago Auto Show that shows the silhouette of an SUV and the text, “The Return of a Legend”.

Rumor has it, this could be a Montero making a comeback in the United States. The Montero hasn’t been sold in the US since 2005, but it’s still on sale in other markets around the globe. It gained popularity in the US with off-road enthusiasts because of its body-on frame construction and 4-wheel drive.

The last Montero to be sold in the United States offered a variety of engines with three different four-cylinder options and four versions of the V6. It was also offered as a 2-door or a 4-door. It left the US market after the 2006 model year because of falling sales.

Based on the most recent concept cars from Mitsubishi, like the GC-PHEV, it’s safe to assume that this new Montero could possibly offer a plug-in hybrid version. The GC-PHEV Concept has futuristic design and advanced safety tech like an Augmented Reality windshield that displays vital information directly on the windscreen.
