The custom 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Recoil that debuted at SEMA last year had a distinct advantage over a lot of the other vehicles there: you could actually drive it. Although the Kia Beermobile was a drool-inducing thing of beauty, a bar on wheels isn’t exactly street legal. But the custom Chevy Chevelle is, and comedian and car enthusiast Jay Leno takes full advantage of that fact in the latest installment of Jay Leno’s Garage.
Leno begins the video by having an in-depth discussion about the vehicle with James and Mike of the Wisconsin-based Ringbrothers (who, Jay helpfully explains, are not the Ringling Brothers. Thanks, Jay). Ringbrothers is known for its innovative parts, and their modified ’66 Chevy Chevelle Recoil does not disappoint on that end, showcasing everything from custom hood pins to specially made door handles that will fit any GM car from the era.

Leno takes it for a spin at around the 18-minute mark, showing how scary-fast this muscle car really is. The Chevelle houses a 7.0-liter LS7 that produces 1,000 horsepower, and Jay claims you can feel every one of those ponies.
Apparently the car’s owner basically gave James and Mike free reign with the Chevelle, and it seems that having a relatively blank canvas to work with led to the creation of a minor masterpiece.
