Opel has announced that Jean-Phillippe Kempf will ascend to the position of Director of International Product Communications for Opel Group GmbH, effective January 1st. Kempf, 53, served as the Group Manager of International Product Communications in his previous position with the automaker and will be replaced in that role by Martin Golka.

Kempf has ostensibly been the Director of International Product Communications since February 2016, taking over the role from Bernd Abel on a temporary basis after his departure from the company. Kempf will continue to report to Johan Willems, Vice President of Communications for Opel Group GmbH. The position of Director encompasses responsibility for technology, design, motorsports, lifestyle communications, and editorial services.

In addition to his work with General Motors and Opel, Kempf is a journalist whose work has appeared in Auto Hebdo and Auto Plus. His career with GM began in 1991 with General Motors France, and he served as the Manager of Motor Shows and Trademark Licensing for GM Europe from 2000-2005. Kempf has worked in product communications for Opel for more than a decade, making him a most uniquely-qualified candidate for the role of Director.

Kempf’s replacement for Group Manager, Golka, was similarly serving in the role in an interim capacity effective the departure of Abel in February. The 39-year-old from Rüsselsheim will continue to report to the man he is succeeding. His previous experience across a 15-year career with Opel includes roles in the press department; marketing, sales, and aftersales; and a stint as the Group Product and Pricing Manager for the ADAM lineup, Opel KARL/Vauxhall Viva, and Corsa.
