Jeep Brand Officially Enters Indian Market
Jeep has been steadily growing as an international powerhouse, and now, it’s entering one of the biggest markets in the world. The Jeep brand will be going on sale in the Indian market later this year.
“Jeep has been one of the most awaited SUV brands in India and it is entering this important market the same year that it celebrates its 75th anniversary,” said Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India Automobiles. “The SUV segment witnessed a robust growth of 22% over the last five years in India and we expect it to grow exponentially in the future, creating the perfect environment for the legendary Jeep brand.”
Jeep’s Indian lineup will include three of its most popular models—the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Sales in India will start in mid-2016. Each of the models will come available with either diesel- or gasoline-powered engines, and will be sold in key metropolitan areas, including New Delhi.
Along with Jeep’s decision to enter the Indian market, it is also investing about $280 million into its manufacturing joint venture with Tata Motors Limited. This will allow the American carmaker to support the production of a new Jeep at its Ranjangaon, India, assembly plant, which is expected to begin production in 2017.
