The Jeep brand earned The Detroit Free Press‘s Automotive Difference Maker award

There are few newspapers that know the automotive industry quite like The Detroit Free Press. As the news source for America’s automotive hometown, the Free Press knows what it’s talking about when it comes to cars. That’s why it’s a big deal that the prestigious newspaper has named the Jeep brand team, along with its head Mike Manley, a winner of its “Automotive Difference Maker” award.

One of the key reasons behind Jeep’s recognition comes from its impressive sales numbers. The Detroit Free Press judges wrote, “Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ recovery from Chapter 11 bankruptcy simply would not have been possible without the rapid global expansion of the Jeep brand. In 2015, FCA sold more than 1.2 million Jeep SUVs worldwide, marking the fourth consecutive year that the brand sold the most vehicles in its history and its sixth consecutive year of sales increases.”

But sales aren’t the only reason why Jeep is worthy of the newspaper’s award—it has also completely re-imagined many of its models, including the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2010, the Jeep Cherokee in 2014, and the brand-new Renegade, which made a huge splash in the industry in 2015.

Really, it should come as no surprise that Fiat Chrysler is planning on killing off the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 just to accommodate more Jeep models. The Jeep brand is on a huge upswing—and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon.
