The 170-hp diesel powertrain is mated to the nine-speed automatic gearbox while the 140-hp engine gets a six-speed manual transmission. Both versions will feature Start/Stop technology aimed at improving fuel economy while also reducing harmful CO2 emissions.

While the Jeep Cherokee Diesel will be making headlines at Geneva, the European version will also be offered with a 3.2-liter V6 Pentastar petrol engine, also married to the nine-speed. By opting for the traditionally powered engine, drivers will see hp numbers boosted to 272 and torque ratings up to 232.34 lb-ft. Exclusively in the Middle Eastern and Russian markets, the Jeep Cherokee can also be fitted with a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir I-4 petrol engine.

The Jeep Cherokee will be available with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive and will feature rear axle disconnect.

Safety features for the Jeep Cherokee abound, including seven airbags, Electronic Stability Control with rollover mitigation, and an anti-lock brake system (with on- and off-road calibration). Other available features include ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
