Jeep Confirms New Compact Crossover SUV Set for 2016 Geneva Motor Show Debut
The crossover segment in Europe is about to get a whole lot more competitive. Jeep recently announced that a new compact crossover will debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. While this crossover won’t make its way to the United States right away, it will go on sale in Europe in early 2017.
This new compact crossover enters into a segment ruled by the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, and Mazda CX-5. The new Jeep will offer consumers a much-need option between the Renegade and Cherokee, finishing off the rugged American carmaker’s refreshed lineup.
There is little information out there regarding the powertrain specs, but we’re speculating that the crossover will have a new 2.2-liter diesel engine currently used in the Cherokee. It’s likely Jeep will also offer multiple smaller gasoline and diesel units, including the 1.4-liter turbo used in the Fiat 500X. Like many other Jeeps, the new compact crossover SUV will offer either two- or four-wheel drive and either manual or automatic transmissions.
With this new compact crossover, Jeep is expanding its reach significantly. Hopefully, this new model will make its way to American soil in a few years.
