Jeep Sales Begin to Recover as Dodge Sales Fall 41% in October
Strong performances from models like the Compass helped Jeep find increased success last month, while Dodge suffered from major sales losses
Jeep is widely considered to be FCA’s strongest brand in terms of overall vehicles sold. Therefore, the automaker will be happy to hear that the decline in Jeep sales is currently becoming far less severe than it has been in past months.
The bad news is that Dodge sales were down by 41% in October.
Making Gains in the Market: Ram’s market share sees steady increase
Dodge sold 24,476 vehicles last month. In October of 2016, the brand sold 41,514 units.
One of the largest sales declines occurred with the Dodge Grand Caravan. Dodge’s minivan model experienced a massive sales decline of 79% last month.
There are a number of reasons why Grand Caravan sales are down. Not only has production for the model been momentarily halted, but drivers are starting to migrate to the Chrysler Pacifica when it comes to minivan choices.
The End of an Era: 2017 Dodge Viper special editions celebrate end of production
Speaking of the Pacifica, sales for the model were only down by a slight 2%. Still, after months of sales increases for the Pacifica, any sales declines are an unwelcome surprise for FCA.
The Chrysler brand as a whole experienced a 22% sales decline last month. This is on par with Chrysler’s year-to-date sales decline of 23%.
Despite major sales losses for the rest of the Dodge brand, the Charger had an excellent sales month in October. Charger sales totaled 8,096 units at the end of the month, a 19% increase year-over-year.
Both Jeep sales and Ram sales were down by a slight 3%. The Ram pickup proper had rather stable sales, with a 1% increase.
The new Jeep Compass is making up for lost sales from the previous Compass and Patriot models it has replaced. Compass sales were up 81% at the end of October.
As far as Alfa is concerned, the Stelvio SUV is currently on track to possibly catch up with the Giulia in terms of sales. Alfa Romeo sold 434 Stelvio models in October, while simultaneously selling 726 Giulia vehicles during the same period.
Year-to-date, FCA has sold a total of 1,732,511 vehicles in the U.S. market. When compared to the sales total from the first ten months of 2016, FCA has experienced an overall 8% sales decline.
