Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has spent his time away from the house that he built (and that recently-deposed host Chris Evans [not that one] nearly demolished) working on The Grand Tour and penning columns for The Sunday Times. Just last week, Clarkson published his list of “Star Cars,” a top 10 list of new vehicles released mostly within the last year. And, unlike a producer who does not bring him his dinner in a timely fashion, Clarkson was quite kind to the Ford brand as a whole.

Before even expounding on his picks, Clarkson has this to say about the Ford Fiesta ST:

Ford’s engineers cannot have known when they bought in the suspension components and the braking system and the tyres from outside suppliers that the end product would be anything other than normal. But somehow, when they put them all together, the end result was spectacular.

He uses this as a means to expound upon the idea of something being better than the sum of its parts and creating a certain “fizzy” feeling in the loins. This idea leads to the introduction of Clarkson’s list, which includes both the 2016 Ford Focus RS and Mustang GT Fastback.

Clarkson rates the former at four stars, saying that “you know after about 100 yards that [Ford] has created something special,” adding that it feels “cleverer than is normal” and calling it “the half-price Nissan GT-R.”

Of the latter, Clarkson says that the Mustang GT does not live up to its billing as a sports car:

What it is, is a muscle car. And you sense that in the second yard. This is a machine that wants to turn its tyres into smoke and go ‘round every corner sideways. You’ve seen the film Bullitt. Well, it’s that.

It is probably fair to say that both of these vehicles are likely to be making appearances on The Grand Tour in some form or fashion. I, for one, cannot wait.
