JFK’s Lincoln Continental Recreated for Parkland Film
Parkland is an upcoming film that focuses on the assassination of John F. Kennedy. To help make the events seem more authentic, writer and director Landesman created an almost exact replica of the Lincoln Continental the president was riding when he was shot by a sniper.
The original 1961 four-door convertible limousine is currently on exhibition at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Landesman couldn’t use it for the film, so he opted to build one from scratch instead.
While the replica is not perfect, Landesman says “it did just fine” in serving its purpose for Parkland. Billy Bob Thornton, who plays a Secret Service agent who was part of the motorcade, said that watching the car in action revived old memories, reminding him of the shock he felt following the assassination when he was just eight years old.
The film will premiere on Sept. 20, featuring Thornton, Zac Efron, and Paul Giamatti.
